Combat System Feature
Fellowship Manuevers
Among all the features of Lord of the Rings Online (LotRO), there is one that is very unique to fellowships and teamwork. Within the combat system of LotRO is Fellowship Maneuvers. This feature allows for fellowships to perform powerful attacks that may help turn the tide of battle or make the fight run smoother. There are four Fellowship Skills to choose from: Ent's Strength (Red), Spider's Guile (Yellow), Eagle's Cry (Green), and Stallion's Spirit (Blue).
When your fellowship enters into a fight with an opposition that is ranked as elite or higher you will have the chance to activate these abilities while the battle wages on. Upon triggering a Fellowship Skill Wheel will appear on your screen prompting you to make a choice of one of four maneuvers.
Depending on what you and your fellowship choose will result in different effects in combat. Each maneuver gives off a special attribute that will benefit the group.
Ent's Strength (Red): A dominating melee attack, that when the power amplifies the damage done will increase. At higher levels the attack will become an AoE attack.
Stallion's Spirit (Blue): Stallion's Spirit provides a self-power heal. Like the other maneuvers at higher levels it will increase in benefit. AOE power heal and a summoned shade of a fallen warrior to aid you in battle for a short period are some of the more advance features.
Spider's Guile (Yellow): This maneuver draws from two benefits: direct melee damage and damage over time (DoT) effect. In the advanced state, Spider's Guile, will apply a 15-second countdown effect that will damage the target's power, slow the target's and attack speed when the countdown is complete.
Eagle's Cry (Green): Healing is a major need in grouping and Eagle's Cry provides that boost. This maneuver gives self-morale heal. In higher levels is will provide area of effect heal (AoE) and cures fear/wound effects.
Fellowship Maneuvers Activations
No matter the size of your group, Fellowship Maneuvers can be activated and used. But to get full benefit of the feature the more the better. The more members the stronger the benefit/power will become in batter. Up to 6 players can be in a fellowship which means the max power level of any one maneuver can be level 6. Basic Combat and/or Burglar/Guardian skills will activate Fellowship Maneuvers in combat.
During a fight with an elite or higher monster any random combat attack can cause the activation of Fellowship Maneuvers. But if your group contains a Burglar or Guardian the chances of opportunity will increase. Each of these two classes has a skill or skill item that can make this team feature occur.
Burglar Skills
•Trip: You can knock an enemy down, opening up an opportunity to use Fellowship. Trip can only be used while in Stealth.
•Exploit Opening: This stuns your target, creating an opportunity to use Fellowship.
•Exposed Throat: After using your Double-edged Strike, you make an attack which inflicts high damage, with a chance of creating an opportunity to use Fellowship Skills if you are in a Fellowship.
•Marbles: You can knock an enemy down, opening up an opportunity to use Fellowship Skills.
Guardian Skills
•Turn the Tables: You are able to knock down a target in response to being knocked down.
•To the King: You are able to make a powerful attack against an enemy who has suffered from Overwhelm or Thrust, potentially knocking it down.
Maximizing Fellowship Maneuvers
There are several different ways to go about picking a maneuver from random choosing to pre-planned effort. Players can just simply choose whichever one they like. Or like a fine game of poker, players can try to make matches, sets, or flushes to maximize the Fellowship Maneuver. Overall planning out the effort will provide the greatest result for the fellowship.
There are different methods of combinations to activate of Fellowship Maneuvers of choosing, which can include pairs, flushes, straights, full houses, and the unique. A pair is pretty straight forward, two matching maneuver/color choices. Flush results in a full set of matching maneuver/colors. A straight consist of consecutive choices on the Fellowship Maneuver Wheel. Full house is the result of one pair and one set of matches. The fine folks at Lord of the Rings Online have provided a few examples of combinations and their names.

Fellowship Maneuver Flushes
Let's say that your fellowship is in the midst of a tough battle, when the Fellowship Skill wheel suddenly appears. "Everyone pick green!" cries the fellowship leader, since Eagle's Cry (green) will result in a sorely-needed morale heal for everyone in the party. All members rapidly select the green icon. This will result in a "flush." The following graphic displays an example length four flush, Call to Arms. Flushes can be from length two to four.
Fellowship Maneuvers - Call to Arms
Fellowship Maneuver Straights
The next step up in the Fellowship Maneuver system is the execution of more complex color patterns such as straights and full houses. These take a greater degree of planning and teamwork, but naturally offer potentially greater benefits.
Fellowship Maneuvers - Thunder of the Oakenshield
As you can see in the length six Thunder of the Oakenshield straight above, straights follow a patterned order that repeats. The shortest straight is length three and longest length six. Starting at any color, you can move forward or backwards along the Fellowship Skill wheel to form a straight. Both 3-icon combinations below result in the same Fellowship Maneuver, Wrath of the Righteous.
Fellowship Maneuvers - Wrath of the Righteous
In addition to the patterns mentioned above, there are dozens of unique combinations that can form Fellowship Maneuvers. It will take time and skill to discover all the combinations the Fellowship Maneuvers system has to offer, and we hope you have fun discovering them! Information about the Fellowship Maneuvers you've executed can be found in the Fellowship Skills Tab under the Skills section of your Character Journal. |
